Marine ecosystems with their diverse interlinked network of species exhibit all the classic features of complex adaptive systems. These features such as non linearity, regime shifts, multiple stable states, adaptation and the emergence of patterns from the interactions within the system make the prediction of future states to say the least challenging. This research topic solicits articles which focus on the complex nature of marine ecosystems, the tools and approaches applied and necessary to develop understanding for the future management of the services they provide.

The submission will be reopened.
