IMBER is very pleased to welcome Dr. Einar Svendsen as the new Executive Officer of IMBER
Effective this week, Dr. Einar Svendsen will take over from Dr. Bernard Avril as the IMBER EO. IMBER is fortunate to have someone of Einar's experience and stature join the IPO, especially as the new IMBER science plan is being developed and IMBER prepares for a transition to Future Earth.
Bernard will continue his association with the IMBER IPO in an advisory capacity for the near future to ensure a smooth transition. Bernard's contributions to IMBER have been numerous and his guidance is most appreciated. We wish him all the best for his next endeavour.
Einar Svendsen has 32 years research experience in physical oceanography, remote sensing and marine ecology in Arctic and sub-Arctic regions. He is particularly interested in the development and use of numerical ecosystem models to study the links between physics (climate) and lower trophic level biology and fish recruitment. He has published about 50 scientific peer-reviewed articles and taken part in 17 research cruises (several as chief scientist) in the Arctic, Antarctic and the northern seas. He recently finished a 6-year term as Research Director at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research (IMR). For many years, he has been active in the scientific leadership of ICES (International Council of the Exploration of the Seas), particularly in activities related to the North Atlantic.
When not engaged in science, Einar spends time sailing, fishing and cross-country skiing with his family and friends. He also leads, plays and sings with a choir of about 60 singers, and plays in a rock and roll band.
