KK has been a great contributor to IMBER and the wider marine science community of many years. Until very recently, he was co-Chair of the IMBER-LOICZ Continental Margins Working Group and his cheerful, optimistic and friendly disposition never wavered.

KK only recently stepped down as co-Chair of the IMBER-LOICZ Continental Margins Working Group. Through his firm but gentle leadership the high standards he set for the working group were realized and helped to ensure that continental margins were part of global environmental change research. His many publications on the biogeochemistryof continental margins provide a lasting legacy of his widerspread influence.

The IMBER community extends its sympathy to KK's family. His leadership, advice and good humour will be missed by all. We feel blessed to have known him.
