The Surface Ocean CO2 Atlas (SOCAT) re-opens its data submission for version 3 until 28 February 2014
Collaboration between SOCAT and the Global Carbon Project (GCP): The Global Carbon Budget has for the first time used a SOCAT data product for its 2013 Global Carbon Budget (Bakker et al., 2013; Le Quéré et al., 2013).
For its 2014 budget the GCP team would like early access to data submitted to SOCAT version 3, in particular for the years 2012 and 2013. The GCP team will use recalculated fCO2 data in a uniform format, but without the full SOCAT version 3 quality control. Providers of data for years 2012 or 2013 will be invited to be contributors of the 2014 Global Carbon Budget. The intention is to produce a third GCP paper for the journal Earth System Science Data, with data providers as co-authors of the paper (one author per team). All contributors of data that is not yet public will be consulted by the GCP prior to the use of their data in the 2014 budget.
To increase the submission of 2012 and 2013 data, SOCAT re-opens its data submission for version 3 until 28 February 2014. This is your chance to get your recent data both in SOCAT version 3 (subject to quality control) and in the 2014 Global Carbon Budget! Surface water CO2 data and accompanying metadata can be submitted to the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center (http://cdiac.ornl.gov/oceans/submit.html). Or contact the SOCAT data manager Benjamin Pfeil (Benjamin.Pfeil@gfi.uib.no).
The collaboration between SOCAT and the GCP will be discussed at the SOCAT Community Event on 23 June 2014 (WP10 at the IMBER Open Science Conference, Bergen, Norway) (http://www.imber.info/index.php/Meetings/IMBER-OSC-2014).
On behalf of SOCAT and the GCP,
