The Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) convened its 2026 Annual Meeting in Helsinki, Finland, from 8 to 10 September 2026. On 9 September, the meeting featured reports and updates from SCOR Working Groups, Projects and Planning Activities, followed by discussions with National Committees.
IMBeR (Integrated Marine Biosphere Research) participated in the Planning Activities session, with a remote presentation delivered by Prof. Dongyan Liu, Chair of IMBeR’s Scientific Steering Committee (SSC), entitled “Ocean sustainability under global change for the benefit of society.”
The presentation briefly reviewed the development of IMBeR since the launch of its first Science Plan in 2005, as well as the current activities and international community of the project. It also highlighted the outcomes of recent community discussions and their contribution to the planning of IMBeR’s next phase.
On behalf of the SSC, Dongyan introduced the ongoing development of IMBeR-3 (2027–2037), outlining its emerging vision and the broad directions being considered for the next decade.
