I am a first-year postgraduate student majoring in English translation in East China Normal University. Since the undergraduate period, I’ve developed a strong interest in foreign languages and achieved proficiency in translation, written and oral English through years of study. To improve my translation skills further, I worked as a translation intern in two companies and also as a bilingual volunteer in social events like the 3rd China International Import Expo and the “vaccination of foreign residents in Shanghai”. Apart from translation, I’ve also found my passion in international organizations. To realize this goal, I participated in the “Innovation & Practice Programme for the Cultivation of High-level Internationalized Talents”, in which I got a better understanding of international organizations and my ability of critical thinking, problem solving and communication. Now, I’m looking forward to the new journey at IMBeR!

Currently, I’m a master degree candidate majoring in translation in ECNU. As an English major student, I realize that theoretical knowledge itself is not enough and that it should be combined with practice. So when hearing the internship programme of IMBeR, I felt quite thrilled by this precious opportunity of applying what I had learned to practice and getting to know more about IMBeR and ocean sustainability in the context of global change.

After a interview, luckily, I was admitted to this internship programme. During this programme, work is assigned to all interns according to our personal interest and strengthens, which maximizes the benefit each of us can obtain from it, and greatly helps us with our future career paths.

It’s a great honor for me to become an intern in IMBeR. I deeply believe that from this internship I can definitely learn a lot and broaden my horizon, and I also hope that I can make my individual contribution to environmental protection through this internship.

I am a postgraduate student majoring in Human Geography at East China Normal University. I previously received my Bachelor’s degree at Zhejiang Sci-tech University majoring in statistics and economics. During my undergraduate study, I have developed a keen interest in environmental economics with a specialism in environmental regulations and carbon neutrality. My current graduate research is in the environment and public health, which discusses the influence of the built environment on mental and physical health using statistical methods. Immersed in several research projects in this field, with some research papers published in international journals, I become acutely aware of the crucial role of climate change and environmental issues. Those precious experiences have cultivated my research thinking, honed my quantitative skills, and laid a solid groundwork in economic theories and quantitative techniques.

I regard the IMBeR as an ideal platform for me to contribute to marine environmental protection and sustainable development. This will also be definitely conducive to self-enhancement. All in all, I sincerely appreciate the chance to gain an internship at IMBeR.

I’m Xiong Kun, currently pursuing my bachelor degree in philosophy that entitles me, by a plethora of training on reading and writing, to fathom key concepts and ideas within complicated and abstract contexts and transfer them into plain words. With increasing concern about climate change and environment issues especially in ocean, I feel the urgency to make a difference and the first step is to promote the popularization of oceanic knowledge, in which I can utilize my writing skills to smooth the understanding of professional knowledge for common people. Given the fact that ocean covers nearly 70% of the surface of our planet, connecting us in different forms, virtually no country could escape from being influenced, therefore, international cooperation with the sense of responsibility is a necessity. Participating in IMBeR, I can contribute to its commitment by my abilities and skills while obtaining a precious and valuable experience in an international organization.
