Congratulations to Dr. Dongyan Liu for winning the Ruth Patrick Award!

The Ruth Patrick award was presented to Dr. Dongyan Liu at the 2023 Aquatic Sciences Meeting in Palma de Mallorca, Spain in June 2023.

Dongyan Liu (2023), for discovering that the Yellow Sea green tide phenomenon initiated with intensive coastal aquaculture, for her research on the biophysical mechanisms and physiological attributes of the algae that explain the extraordinary growth and spread of the blooms, and for her work on mitigation of this significant environmental problem.

ASLO President Dr. Patricia Glibert notes, “Dr. Dongyan Liu has made an outstanding contribution to determine the causes of a significant environmental problem. Her publications on the green tide phenomena have received worldwide attention and have guided successful government controls. We are honored to present this year’s Ruth Patrick Award to Professor Liu in recognition of her outstanding achievements and exemplary tenaciousness in the aquatic sciences.”

Ruth Patrick AwardSince 1998, the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) has annually presented the Ruth Patrick Award to honor an aquatic scientist whose research leads to the identification, analysis, or solution of important environmental problems.
