Doctoral Forum: Experiencing China – Dialogue on the Maritime Silk Road

The “Experiencing China” series, initiated by the China Scholarship Council (CSC, www.csc.edu.cn), is designed to give its scholarship students the opportunity to explore academic and industrial possibilities, and give insight into the Chinese culture. As a part of the 2019 “Experiencing China” activities, a Doctoral Forum entitled “Dialogue on the Maritime Silk Road” will be hosted by East China Normal University (ECNU) (www.ecnu.edu.cn) and its subordinates, including the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC) (www.sklec.ecnu.edu.cn), the Institute of Belt and Road & Global Development (BRGD) (www.brgd.ecnu.edu.cn), the Institute of World History Studies, the Global Education Center (GEC) (lxs.ecnu.edu.cn) and the Institute of Eco-Chongming (IEC) (chm.ecnu.edu.cn). The Forum aims to provide a “communication” platform that brings together international students to have extensive exchanges in various fields, in the vision of building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. With mutual understanding and respect, it is hoped that the spirit of the Maritime Silk Road can be carried forward through the new generation.
The Forum covered “Culture and Civilization”, “Estuaries and Coast” and “Economics and Trade” and consist of three concurrent but interacting sessions. The sessions are:
1) The Maritime Silk Road and cultural exchange across regions,
2) Estuarine and coastal science and technology and sustainable ecosystems,
3) Building a world of common prosperity through win-win cooperation.
The Forum included keynote lectures, presentations and discussions, as well as a workshop on career planning and a field trip to the Yangshan Deep Water Port or China Maritime Museum.
