In September 2025, the IMBeR CLIOTOP Micronekton Task Team met at IUEM in Plouzané, France, to advance global analyses of micronekton trophic ecology. The team, including Drs. Anaïs Médieu, Anela Choy, Rachel Chen, Tiphaine Chouvelon and Anne Lorrain, focused on refining and exploring an extensive global database of stable isotope (n = 11,491) and mercury (n = 2,138) measurements spanning over 160 micronekton families. Collaborations with biogeochemical MOBI and NEMO-PISCES modellers helped assess baseline variability, while discussions led to strategies for integrating model outputs and standardising data analyses. Early results suggest regionally coherent declines in δ13C values through time and potential size-related trophic shifts in δ15N values. The team also set priorities for inter-tissue mercury comparisons and developing best-practice guidelines for global micronekton datasets.
